My training method is based on natural learning, your dog will become steady much quicker than with conventional training and exhibit all his natural intensity, drive and focus.
I use a lot of birds and diligence to enhance your dogs natural abilities and bring out his or her very best. I have a flexible training program and I do my best to accommodate you and your dog. If you like to do the training yourself, but do not have the experience or knowledge, I offer consulting sessions, and will work with you and your dog to guide you in your training. I always have lots birds (Pigeons, Bobwhite quail, Ring neck pheasant, Chukar partridge, Hungarian partridge) and I can send you home with some birds after each session. So you can train your dog at home as well.
- The average time frame to take a pup through the 1st level of training is 60 to 90 days. - My Puppy program includes of course all the commands needed in the field such as; Here (come) and Whoa (stay). - The puppy will be introduced to Birds, Gun and e-collar. - The puppy also will learn to work a quarter pattern in front of you and to hold steady on point. - The puppy program/started dog program requires a $100.00 non-refundable deposit to reserve a spot. - We do take on a limited number of dogs at one time, reservations are encouraged. - I offer personalized 1-on-1 Training sessions at $60.00 per session.
PUPPY BIRD INTRODUCTION CLASS Young dogs need to be given the opportunity to develop their inherent prey drive through exposure to birds. This Class ensures a young dog is excited about birds and is prepared for the next level. During this class we introduce the puppy to birds and build their enthusiasm for finding birds. Once puppy is excited about birds then we can properly introduce gun fire. (Classes are once of week minimum, about one hour per session, weekend classes available, $100.00 per session)
BASIC TRAINING CLASS During this class the dogs get to work multiple birds, and get used to being in the field. By using the mechanical cues of check cords, whoa posts and command leads we are able to teach fundamental behaviors to the dogs. At this time mechanical low level remote cues are introduce in the field and ultimately verbal commands are overlaid to the conditioned response. At this level dogs are becoming steady on game, learning to honor another dog's point and quartering on cue. (Classes are once or twice of week, about one hour per session, weekend classes available, $100.00 per session)
TUNE UPS CLASSES Bring your dog's performance back up and prepare him for a great hunting season. (weekend classes available)
GENERAL OBEDIENCE We can teach your dog to heel calmly, come to you, sit/stay. Not to jump on people and general manners that will make him a pleasure to be around. We can also transition all of these cues to the remote cue of an e-collar. ($100.00 Per Session)
TRAINING TIPS: Reading the tail. A dog’s tail is one of the most expressive parts of his body and knowing how to read the tail is like looking through a window into his mind. Birds, birds, birds. This is the key to your dog learning to hunt. If you don't live in an area where puppy can find lots of wild birds, join a hunting preserve or use pen-raised birds. The bottom line is that if your dog does not see birds, it will never become an accomplished bird dog.
Consistentperformance in response to your commands should be one of your training goals, but keep in mind that a dog's attention span is limited; therefore short, frequent training sessions are far more effective than longer lessons.
Hunt your dog into the wind. The dog will produce more birds if the wind is blowing scent to its nose, rather than away from its scent cone.
